Here at RED we have a weekly staff meeting every Monday morning between 09.30 and 10.00. This is referred to as the ‘Whiteboard Meeting’ as in the early days of RED the whole company used to gather around a whiteboard to talk through matters of moment. Over the year this totals a commitment of around 600 hours which is a significant investment for a company of our size.
So why do it?
We believe that this meeting is a key part of the RED recipe for successfully delivering challenging engineering projects. The meeting is structured around the following topics:
- A photo of the week – an opportunity to look back at a highlight from the previous week
- A safety moment – these are broad and varied in scope, ranging from reviews of industry safety bulletins to discussing safety at home
- A review of current projects – what are the key challenges and opportunities for the week ahead and what learning can be shared
- A review of business development activity – from live proposals, planned marketing activities to client engagement
This meeting is a great opportunity for all to gain an understanding of what is happening across all aspects of the business and to share experience – which is invaluable when delivering first of kind solutions quickly. In addition, it ensures that all have the opportunity for a weekly refresh of our direction, strategy and progress – a weekly feedback loop for a dynamic business working in a ever more dynamic world.
